A new year, a fresh start, and a chance to put intention behind the person you want to be in 2023.
Countless people will make New Year’s resolutions pledging to exercise more, eat better or lose weight. Wanting more for our health and well-being is such an important step in getting healthy, and we are here to support you with your goals.
However, less tangible goals are equally important. This includes finding the right work/life balance, reducing stress, creating healthy boundaries, prioritizing mental health, or dropping bad habits such as smoking or excessive drinking. If your mental health isn’t optimized, it makes everything else so much harder. If you want to achieve your tangible health goals, you have to first be in a place where you are able to think clearly and make good decisions.
INDEAL Cares is committed to supporting you and your team in your journey to do more to support and celebrate mental health in the year ahead.
The path to improved mental health or a life with fewer destructive habits can depend on the individual, but it is achievable! Consider building this into a team building activity so that your team can share individual goals and support each other in achieving them.
Here are some good guidelines for getting started:
1. Set Your Intention. The first step to accomplishing any health or well-being goal is understanding what you really want, and the potential benefits.
Action: Consider making a list of why this particular health or well-being goal is important for you, and how it can improve your life.
2. Pay Attention. For many people, understanding the underlying reasons for behavior that is contrary to good health is a difficult – and important step in behavior change.
Action: Notice your thoughts and actions. Pay special attention to when are triggered to make poor health choices and take steps to avoid those triggers.
3. Be Generous. Give yourself time and space to make mistakes. You aren’t aiming for perfection. You’re aiming for “better than before”. If you fail to meet a daily goal, trust that tomorrow can be different.
Action: Force yourself to celebrate something each day. Even if sometimes all you are celebrating is the fact that you tried.
4. Share your goals and your journey with others – and embed your wellness goals into your workday.
Action: Recruit colleagues and friends to help you stay on track, help you stay accountable, celebrate successes – and support you on days that aren’t so successful!
