The Holiday Bark is simple to make, delicious to eat, and it adds some great flavor and color to any festive gathering!
Ingredients
16 ounces (454g or approx. 2 1/2 cups) good quality semi-sweet chocolate, cut into pieces
12 ounces (340g or approx. 2 cups) good quality white chocolate, cut into pieces
½ cup – 1 cup of toppings (dried cranberries, chopped nuts, seeds, dried fruit, festive crushed candy canes or other candy)
Preparation
Line a 9x13” pan with aluminum foil, smoothing out any wrinkles.
Place approximately 1 1/2 inches of water into the bottom of the saucepan and put on a low heat until steaming.
Meanwhile chop up any of the topping you will add at the end of the process. Set aside.
Reserve 1 cup worth of semi-sweet chocolate and add the remaining to a heat-proof bowl and place over pot with steaming water, making sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl.
Heat gently until completely melted. Remove from heat, and keep the pot on low heat.
Add reserved chocolate a bit at a time and stir until melted. Patience is required. Keep stirring. If you do need a little help, return the bowl to placing it over the pot for only 15 seconds at a time.
Once all the semi-sweet chocolate is melted and mixed well. And quickly pour into prepared pan, spreading evenly. Tap the pan on the counter a few times to remove air bubbles and help settle the chocolate. Set aside while you melt the white chocolate.
Clean out the heat-proof bowl and return to the simmering water pot.
Repeat the melting process for the white chocolate.
Reserve ¾ cups white chocolate and add the remaining to the bowl and melt completely.
Add the reserved white chocolate and follow steps 4 and 5.
Once the white chocolate is completely melted, spread on top of the semi-sweet layer and then add any toppings you wish.
Let set for 1 hour in the fridge. Once set, using the foil, remove the bark from the pan. Break into pieces.
Note: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 weeks (if it lasts that long!)
