Looking for some edible treats that will balance out all the Halloween candy? This is a great activity to do with the kids and also a fun centerpiece for your Halloween party.
Ingredients
Pick Your Sculpture Base
choose one or two of the following:
halved: melon (cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, etc), pineapple
whole: grapefruit - apple - orange - pear
Pick Your Fruit
choose a variety of your favourites:
banana - mango - kiwi - melon - orange - apple - plums strawberry - blueberry - raspberry -blackberry peaches - pears - grapes - pineapple - cherries - etc.
Creamy Yogurt Dip
1 cup greek or non-dairy yoghurt, plain or flavoured
2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (omit if using flavoured yoghurt)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Preparation
Prep Your Fruit
Cut up the fruit in a variety of sizes to create kebabs. To create interest and texture, half some berries & grapes while leaving some whole.
You can use mini cookie cutters on large slices of harder fruit like apple, melons and pineapple.
Toss apples and bananas with a bit of lemon juice to stop them from browning before adding them to the sculpture.
Get Creative
Place your sculpture base on a plate, platter or cutting board.
Create an assortment of kebabs by using bamboo skewers and toothpicks.
You can use only one piece of fruit or many per skewer/toothpick.
Remember to leave the skewer/toothpick exposed at one end for anchoring it into the base.|
Now poke the kebabs into the base.
Be creative. Give your sculpture a face, or turn the sculpture into a funny monster, see how high you can create a tower or just make your sculpture abstract and fun. It’s time to your use imagination!
Creamy Yogurt Dip
Place all ingredients in a bowl and stir until well combined.
Serve with an assortment of fruits.
